Wild Warner meets Nov. 30 – Minutes from October

Wild Warner will hold its next meeting Nov. 30. Please join us.

Minutes of Wild Warner Oct. 19, 2010

In attendance: Jim, Dolores, Luke, Trish, Lori, Chris, Tim, Marie, Mike, Robert, Sandy, Jon, Jack, Alex.

Discussed the need for Membership/Dues. Came up with several ideas/reasons for us to require membership and dues:

Marketing/Promotional packaging i.e. wildlife walking maps, any kind of printed material that we would display at the center or hand out.
Visual printed presence in the center.
Makes the organization legitimate
With legitimacy comes power within the community

All meetings and activities are open to the public. But it was decided that only “members” can vote. It was decided to charge these fees for membership:

Sustainable $5.00
Students $10.00
Senior Citizen $10.00
Unemployed $10.00
Family membership $20.00
Individual $15.00

Organization: Group decided that we need members to break into tasks to make Wild Warner run smoothly:

Trish – Educational director
Jim – Coordinator/Chairperson
Kathie – Researcher
Tim – Treasurer
Dolores – Action Coordinator
Sandy/Chris -Watchdog Patrol
Marie – Secretary

Talked about the Oct. 31 Cylcocross. Before and after pictures will be taken. At least two members monitored the race.

Geese Update: Kathie attended the meeting that the city held and reviewed what she had heard. The Yahara Golf course does not want the geese eliminated. Kathie was interested in where Russ Hefty got his data. Dolores brought up the Open Records law in Wisconsin. She would like to review his opinions and talk to him in advance of the Nov. 1st meeting. She will work with Kathie on this.

We need to talk to the Mayor when we start asking for personal appeals about the geese issue. Alex’s name came up as a person who could draft a letter to the mayor.

Two city meetings are coming up. We need representation from Wild Warner to be there. Talked about increasing numbers of people to come to meetings i.e. In Defense of Animals has taken an interest.
Kathie will compile all links about the geese issue and send them to other interested groups i.e. Audubon, Alliance for Animals, Humane Society.

Other issues that came up were:
Need to thank Brad and Diane for letting us use the space at Warner.

Alex would be interested in doing Nature walks along with anything that needed to be edited or written. He is interested in writing articles, proposals, detailed editing, talking w/ children, being a nature guide. Jim proposed that Alex come up with plan / ideas for his talents.

Talked about a Thanksgiving nature walk. Trish and Alex will work on this together.

The after-school program received a $2,500.00 grant thanks to Audubon to buy binoculars for Sherman Middle School and the kids in the program.

Talked about insurance issues for the walks/ Need to look into the issue of insurance.
