Wild Warner Feb.15, 2011 Meeting Notes
Delores attended the Parks meeting that included the 5 year plan on open space at Warner. Much talk was about how poorly the survey has gotten out to the public. “Numerous deficits in process.” Marlene tried 8 times to get into the survey without any luck. Parks Department attitude changed at the third meeting and started listening to the many complaints. Many people spoke at the meeting about natural areas. 30 or so people attended.
We have been unable to find the comprehensive detailed plan; Kay Rutledge said that there was such a plan but not on line. We would need to come into the office to look at it.
Concerns of survey include; need to interview more people, more time needed, need to be able to talk to groups, children need to be interviewed.
Kevin Briski is coming to the March meeting. Some of the questions we will be asking him are; what can we do in the Park? Limits, geese, mowing policies, R&B, Walks, natural areas.
Goals /Set limits on what we can do in Park, kiosks, signage, dogs running wild.
Talked about calling people to attend March meeting (5 each) thru e-mail, list servers, NS discuss, inviting community. Would like to target 50 people to attend meeting.
Looking for a R&B subcommittee Marie said she would attend the R&B meetings down town. Timothy?
R&B concerns; nest survey, wetlands concerns, survey after no R&B with neighbors
Trich talked about the walks and has rounded up some professors from the UW. Included are a wetland ecologist, tree expert, and an ornithologist. Marlene will do a prairie talk. Will continue to work with NESCO on the Walks.
More good news. Trish saw two hawks mating in Warner. Will write an article.
Kathy -Geese update. Lori and Tim met with Soglin about the geese issue and he seemed very receptive to the topic. Sounds like he would be interested in calling Geese Peace. Will use Soglin meeting as a leverage to meet with Mayor Dave.
Geese Peeps wrote a letter to Mayor specifically requesting Geese Peace to be brought in. Briski wrote back and said he had directed his staff to call Geese Peace

Marlene – Trying to pull together a survey of fox/ coyote tracks in Warner. Talked about publishing tracks in the Northside News.
Willy Street grants are available from 500 -2000.Wellness grant. Will try to pull together a joint grant with NESCO. To buy field guides, spotting scopes, binoculars,
and bird feeders.
